WAIHEKE CHORAL SOCIETY NEWSLETTER OCT, 2009

Hi everyone and a special welcome to members who have just joined us.

Rather a late newsletter this time and although we have been working quite hard behind the scenes there has been very little to report. We are all absorbed with The Messiah, and it is great that so many voices have joined us, especially the men. In spite of bad colds and members being overseas on holiday we are getting very good attendances at rehearsals. Everyone is working very hard and a big thankyou to Millicent who invited the altos to her home for a practise. Mark has downloaded all the parts onto the website and also on to a CD. See Mark if you want one. There will be extra rehearsals scheduled over the next few weeks on alternate Wednesdays, for men and ladies. You will be advised when they start. There will be no choir meeting on Sept 29th and also rehearsals will commence at 7.00pm. Performance dates are the weekend of 5th and 6th of Dec. at St Peter’s Church, two performances, and one performance on the weekend of 12th and 13th. of Dec. at St Joseph’s Church Grey Lynn. This is to help them raise funds for the repair of their roof .Richard is in consultation with them and will confirm later. Most of us have Gold Cards and arrangements are being made for those who don’t.

We recently decided to donate $3000 to Artworks toward the cost of their seats, then at a further meeting it was agreed to give them a further $2000. The seats have been installed and are very comfortable by all accounts and because of their design we can possibly seat a few more people.

News of next years production. There have been so many obstacles surrounding “Oliver” with the rights etc. that we decided not to do it. So we went through nineteen different shows and finally we arrived at “A funny thing happened on the way to the Forum” provided we can get the rights to it. There are plenty of choruses and ensembles, so we should have a lot of fun .However it is not until next year and anything can happen and most of the problems are outside our control.

And finally, our Christmas break-up will be held on Tuesday the 15th of Dec. at the Onetangi Hall. The Committee have a beautiful ham organised as usual. So, please bring a plate suitable for dinner and BYO. If you are a vegetarian please mark your dish so it can be put in a special place for you .Also, please bring a nonsense gift for Santa to distribute.(from the $2.00 shop) and nothing over $5.00. Just use your imagination. As we will be entertaining ourselves, we expect some songs, skits and or clean jokes. So , get your thinking caps on and lets have a cracking good time and let our hair down after all our hard work. Partners are more than welcome, they are expected.

That’s it for now.
