WAIHEKE CHORAL SOCIETY NEWSLETTER NOV 08
Hi everyone
This is the penultimate newsletter for the year and the year is tumbling furiously toward its end with the start of the busy season for all. Even the Christmas decorations seem to be making their appearance earlier than ever. Associations and clubs are winding down and looking forward to their end of year functions, and here we are getting busier than ever. Trying to fit everything in is a nightmare. As the countdown to the Messiah performance begins your committee is meeting twice monthly because we have also set in motion our programme for next year. Acapella had a very successful concert with a very appreciative audience. $183.00 was raised from the Koha donations and it was decided that after the expenses were taken out of that the rest would be donated to Whittakers towards the purchase of musical instruments.
The Messiah is going very well with a good rehearsal attendance by all. We now have very strong bass and tenor sections. It has been decided to hold only one performance at St. Peter’s Church on Sunday Dec 7th at 5.00pm, then straight on to Onetangi Hall for our Christmas dinner. The ham has been purchased, so please bring a plate and BYO suitable for dinner, also a nonsense present from the $2.00 shop or where ever so that Santa may distribute his good cheer. Full concert dress for the Messiah please. Black trousers/long skirt and white blouse/shirt, coloured tie for men and colourful scarf for the ladies. There will be an extra rehearsal for the Messiah on Sunday Nov. 16th 4.00pm at Whittakers.
On to next year’s programme, South Pacific. There will be eight performances over two weeks with an extension if required. Hopefully it will be performed in mid May onwards, firm dates have not been fixed. There will be a chorus cast call in the next two weeks, dates will be published in the local paper. The first looksee of the songs and script will be at Artworks Tues. Dec 9th at 7.00pm. All will be welcome. We have been invited to take part in Carols by Candlelight (bring your umbrella) and have been asked to enter singing a carol then assemble on stage to a rousing Hallelujah Chorus.
After South Pacific has been performed it has been decided to do a full performance of The Messiah. It will be the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the death of Handel and this will be our main programme for the end of year. There will also be a children’s show called Treasure. This is for children only, no adults in the show but plenty needed off stage. More info on this later.
