WAIHEKE CHORAL SOCIETY NEWSLETTER OCTOBER2006

Hi everyone

We have all been so very busy that I have not had time to write the newsletter. However, it is now screaming out to be done before events overtake us.

Acappella is very strong with their Christmas Concert well under way. They meet on Tuesday night at 6.05 pm. There is a yoga class before acappella and they need five minutes to get out of the hall..

Iolanthe is well into rehearsals and having had two practises at Artworks it is now blocked out as well .The cast might be feeling a bit stressed at the progress but believe you me it is doing well and is on track. The hesitancy with words and music entrances will all be gone very shortly, the words are tongue twisters, but frequent listening to Andy’s CD/tape helps tremendously .The Principals have all made great progress with their lines and music and the choreography by Meya is well in hand. As rehearsals on Sunday are a lot longer than the Tuesday night it would be a good idea to bring a bite to eat or a plate to share, then you could nibble when you can, as long as it is not on stage. . Only the seated fairies can do that , we are allowed to eat breakfast .Many thanks to those dedicated people behind the scenes organising extra practises, getting costumes ,props etc.. Thanks also to Colin Beardon and Jack Watson for doing the posters and tickets, There’s a lot more going on in the Beardon household which will be apparent at later rehearsals. All this is coming together in the capable hands of the completely unflappable Robert Vale. Many thanks to Anne on the piano and now we have the orchestra who have been practising the music for quite a while. Richard has been spending a lot of time with everyone and he is managing a great juggling act with the orchestra, acappella ,Iolanthe and the upcoming very short concert for Starship. Thanks Mary for letting us have him. Tickets and posters are out and we must make a tremendous effort to pre sell themThere is a small mistake in the posters and tickets. We do not have a Sunday evening performance. It is a matinee .at 2pm. So please alter the time on posters, flyers and tickets.

On Friday Nov. 3rd.we will be singing at a private function. It is to help raise funds for Starship hospital. Any one who can be there please meet at MORRA hall at 12 noon. Richard will give us some music and a short run through . It will be music we are very familiar with and probably some Christmas carols so there is no problem We will be providing background music. We will be going on to the venue at the home of Don and Maureen Robertson t 64 Korora Rd at 1pm and we will finish at 2pm. Not every one will be able to take part because of other commitments, but please come if you can, this will be part of our community service. Casual dress but smart please .Ladies watch your shoes, we could be standing on a lawn and it would’nt do to start sinking

After all the performances Choir will break up for a well earned rest with a Christmas dinner at The Golf Club on December 5th. Spouses/partners are very welcome but we will need numbers shortly. Cost will be about 20.00 dollars per head. Please bring aY nonsense gift for Santa or Kris Kringle to distribute ,nothing over 4.00 dollars and the sillier the better. If you have an item you wish to entertain us with, please feel free. Many thanks to Andy who is our social secretary who has arranged this and also thanks for organising the trip to Footrot Flats .Philip and Marion, you were GREAT.

Birthday greetings for this month go to George Hudson and Marion Robertson. I hope you had a great day.

Congratulations to Lesley Smith who was recently appointed Branch Manager at Harveys, who are our newsletter sponsors. Lesley recently completed and passed her Real Estate exams .Congratulations from everyone.
