WAIHEKE CHORAL SOCIETY NEWSLETTER OCT/NOV 2004-10-22

Hi everyone

Here we are racing towards Summer and Christmas Holidays,

and end of year break-ups are crowding our lives. To make matters even worse the tourist season is fast approaching. I don’t know which of the last three are more scary. The Panto is already in rehearsal and you are all invited to take part in the chorus by your own personal choice. It will be performed over three weekends and the chorus will be rehearsing on Sundays. See Philip for more info.

A cappella had a very successful and enjoyable concert on Sunday Oct. 17th. It was well supported by music lovers. They sang Gustav Holst’s Five Songs and five Bach Chorales closing with the Irish Blessing We also had some musical pieces from The Island Pipers a group of Waihekeans who play recorders, they were joined by some friends from Auckland making nine in the group. They played on recorders rangeing from sopranino, descant, treble, tenor, bass and a very odd looking instrument called a contra bass. They played a selection of traditional 16th and 19th century music. It was a very enjoyable afternoon and showed the musical versatility of the choir. It was so different to what the Tuesday choir sings and I was quite envious sitting in the audience.

Committee News

It has been decided not to reprise the concert, because we cannot fit it in. Our Christmas concert will be held at St. Peter’s Church on Sunday Dec. 12th,with Sister Shout and hopefully the Te Huruhi school choir. This will be starting at 7pm. and there will be Carols by Candlelight on the beach afterwards if you want to go. A visit to Seaside Sanctuary to sing carols will be Tuesday Dec.7th at 6.30pm.This is a normal rehearsal night to make it easier for us. We still have to confirm this with Seaside Sanctuary because of teatime and of course Coro St.

Concert Music.

Please return your concert music by Tues.Nov 2nd. Because of copy right laws etc. we have to destroy it. A cappella can return theirs to rehearsal Nov 1st.If you cannot return it yourself, please pass it on to someone who can and it will be recycled correctly.

End of year break-up.

It’s always nice to have an excuse to wine and dine ourselves and hopefully our end of year break-up will be as successful as our mid year Christmas. It is to be held at Onetangi hall Tuesday 14th.Dec. Please bring a plate suitable for dinner and a $2 dollar mystery gift, wrapped. Some Bubbles are still available but if you wish to bring a bottle you are welcome to do so. The choir will be providing some special Christmas food. Please have one item per person but this is NOT compulsory, partners are more than welcome. Starting at 6.30pm. to 9.30pm.and we look forward to seeing you there.

Medlyn with the keys.

Overseas

Well I did it again. I had Jill and Ian Tetley in Brisbane when indeed they were still here. However they are off shortly, it’s like reading your own obituary in the paper.Alan and Eileen Boghurst are definitely back from England They were at choir last week and Alan was singing in the concert. Vonny Maguire is having a short holiday in Brisbane. It must be all that warm weather they have over there.

Birthdays

Many happy returns to George Hudson who has a birthday in October, George is the Patron of our choir and I’m sure he had good one.

Finally, please visit our website. Mark has done a great job on it and he updates it regularly If you want to refer to past newsletters, they are on it.Address is www.geocities.com/waihekechoral
