WAIHEKE CHORAL SOCIETY AGM. MARCH 13^TH 2007

PRESIDENTS REPORT.

In the beginning was the word. And it was mine. It only seems a short while ago that I wrote the last report and as usual the Choral Society has had a very busy year. This year has seen us pass our 30^th anniversary. Albeit that it started late Dec.2006. so we are holding it over until Dec 2007. so that it can be enjoyed for a full year. We performed Mainly Mozart a tribute to Mozarts’200year anniversary and then a brilliant update by Brenda Vale of “Iolanthe”. A Cappella have sung even song at St. Peters. In Onehunga and also St. Peters in Oneroa. Many thanks to the ongoing support from Fullers who gave us tickets for the Onehunga venue. They finished off the year with Christmas songs in conjunction with Sister Shout at St. Peters Oneroa. We sang at the library for music month which was in atrocious weather and in absolute contrast, we sang at a beautiful home in Fossil Bay under blue skies and blazing sunshine to help fundraise for Starship Hospital.

We had a great time socially, having a mid winter dinner a trip to the theatre to see Foot Rot Flats, and a great Christmas break-up at the Golf Club. Many thanks to Andy who organised these occasions.

Congratulations to Jill Tetley and to Richard Melville who both received a community certificate from the Council for work done in the community. Our Patron George Hudson also received one . It was well deserved by everyone.

No society or club works well if it doesn’t have a good committee, and I have been blessed with the best. My grateful thanks to Jack Watson the secretary and to Mark James and Philip Symonds who have been joint treasurer. Mark had a sojourn overseas and Philip handled the finances during his absence. The Minutes were always out on time and the finances were well looked after. I’m sorry to say we did not make a profit with “Iolanthe’ “ but we were up against stiff opposition with the High School production of “Grease”. You can’t beat Kids in showbiz. Andy did a good job as social secretary, thanks to the ladies of the committee who kept the wheels turning and to Marie Watson who kept us fed. We had a full muster of members at most meetings and with only the odd apology. So Thankyou for your outstanding support and commitment and attendance at meetings .To all the willing volunteers who helped out when needed, putting out chairs, doing the teas and washing up, and all the extra help needed around shows and ;performances. Our rehearsal pianists need a special thanks for a difficulty job well done

To Richard, our choir master, musical director and conductor, who holds us altogether, The whole choir thank you for your patience and courtesy and the wonderful musical experiences you have given us, and most of all for your dedication and commitment. And a very special thanks to his wife Mary who lets us have him.

And thus, The lesson endeth.
