Minutes of Committee Meeting Held in the Palm Beach Hall

On 23rd August 2005

Meeting opened at 6.05 p.m.

Present: Jeanne Mellamphy (Chair), Richard Melville, Philip Symonds, Janis McCartain, Pat Atkin, Marie Watson, Jack Watson. There were no apologies.

The Minutes of the last Committee meeting (26th July 2005) were read and confirmed, on the motion of Jeanne, seconded by Marie. Matters arising: There are still some items in Pat’s garage. These will need to be disposed of, and Philip will take care of this as soon as he can. Other matters arising were dealt with in General Business.

Correspondence: Inward: Quarterly newsletter of the NZ Choral Federation. Outward: Form to go to the Play Bureau, re Last Tango in Little Oneroa, and application form to Community Post is also to be filled out and sent. Inward received and out ward approved on motion of Jeanne, seconded by Pat.

Finance: Accounts were passed for payment--$28.01 to the Play Bureau, for copies of “Last Tango in Little Grimley (Oneroa),” $364.00 to Waiheke Marketplace for advertising. $245.00 for hire of Palm Beach Hall and $40.00 to the Waiheke Presbyterian Church for hire of St. Paul’s as a practice venue. Jack/Philip.

General Business: Alan Boghurst is going to give the Committee a copy of his suggested amendments to the Constitution. Alan Knight is unable to direct “Last Tango in Little Oneroa.” After discussion, it was agreed that the Musical Director would also be able to take care of the dramatic content of the show. Steve Tetley has agreed to look after the lighting. Kate Loughmayne is not able to do the publicity. However, it was felt that Committee members could handle this, and Janis will ask her friend Brenda to produce a couple of posters.

It appears certain the Artworks Theatre will be open in time for the scheduled performances of “Last Tango.” (Friday 11th, Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th November, the Sunday performance to be a matinée. It has been necessary to make several postponements of these days, but this is to be the last one! Marie is to approach the Omiha Welfare and Recreation Society through Chairman Mike Lee, regarding the possibility of a performance of “Last Tango” and the integral Cabaret in their Hall. This to be a single performance only. Preparations for Last Tango in Little Oneroa are well forward. The stage is to be dressed for the second (cabaret) half of the performance. Evening dress (long skirts for the ladies, black tie for the men) to be worn for the Cabaret part of the performance.

The possibility of a refund being due to the Choral Society from Artworks was raised.

Date for performance of carols is to be Sunday 4th. December.

Christmas Choir break-up function is to be held on Tuesday 6th. December. If it follows the usual pattern of a shared meal with items afterwards, in the Onetangi Hall, Jeanne is to order a Christmas ham again. However, the idea of having an evening meal at a restaurant for the members was suggested, and it was agreed that this idea be put to the choir (at a practice) to see if this would be preferred by them. Those attending would pay, but possibly the Society could subsidise by $10.00 per head.

Programme for 2006 was discussed. “Ruddigore” was suggested as the major production during the winter, and this was agreed to unanimously. Other suggestions for a programme were: Mozart’s “Solemn Vespers,” Vivaldi’s “Beatus Vir,” and Racine’s “Cantique de Jean Racine.”

Next Meeting is to be on September 27th at 6.00 p.m.

This meeting closed at 7.20 p.m.
